When one watches a single figure on TV for so many years, one begins to catch on to what this figure is actually feeling. I have noticed Conan have more fun than ever before, I have noticed him genuinely laugh and smile. I have also seen him share looks with his sidekick Andy Richter that evoke musings on their stalwart bond. I have seen looks from the members of The Tonight Show band that clearly demonstrate solidarity among his kin. What Conan may have realized, or will realize, is that, had he continued as host for another 10 years, of course he would be remembered as one of the great canonical late night TV comedians, and without a doubt that would be an accomplishment; however, going out, as he has, in a blaze of glory, with grace and honour, he has accomplished even more, and he has become legend.
