Up is the latest animated classic from Pixar, and stands as one of the best films the studio has to offer. Everyone knows Pixar has quite the track record thus far, and with the release of Up, they have now made three masterpieces in a row (Ratatouille, Wall-E, and now Up). While it may be classified otherwise, Up is like and adult film masquerading as a child’s film. Beneath the amazing visuals lies depth and authentic emotion. It is clear that the mentality behind these films is no longer “OK, so the kids will love it, but how do we get the parents to sit through it?” but rather “OK, so the adults will love it but will a kid be able to sit through it?” Ratatouille was the breakthrough; Wall-E was the follow-through and now Up is the confirmation of what may be the most important shift in American animation history.
